i went to a houston dynamo game today... aka houston's MLS team. it was one of the best sporting events have ever been to. it was a fuckton of fun despite the tie 1-1.

i consider this as an impact comment as i have been to most every professional sporting event possible including the world series and the world cup. expect me to be tailgating with a 30 pack at every dynamo game i can... you can find me in the parking lot 3 hours before game time with a beer and a frisbee. during the game find me in the Texian army section on the north side of the stadium.

i highly recommend that everyone come and experience a game, even donny who i would never expect to enjoy soccer said that he would come to every game he could.

love peace and dynamo
~mabeuf

so yesterday sucked ass. it was the anniversary of something i hate to think about and i spent all day acting like i did not know that it was the 38th anniversary. i feel like shit today for being such a wuss and ignoring that the date just so that i would avoid being depressed all day. well i caught up to me anyway.

as if that were not enough my mom and dad just figuratively blew up. well my mom at least, my dad has never been an emotional guy so he is just going to sleep on it but my mom just broke down. my mind then subsequently exploded upon comforting her. did you know my mom is an orphan? because i did not... fun day so far...

at least my german cousin sent me a badass munchen 1860 soccer jersey with 'Croes' on the back. the note with it said 'im a lion, you are a lion.' (the team mascot). i gotta come up with something amazing to send him back. wait if my mom is an orphan than is he really my cousin? i was under the impression that he was the grandson of my mother's estranged german father who had my mother with my grandmother... but if my grandmother was not my paternal grandmother then that leaves some holes in the family tree.

cheers to the rest of your day being better than mine

god that was stupid, im already depressed and i just watched a 2 hour documentary on the history channel entitled "Kennedy's: Curse of Power." pretty much two hours detailing the death/downfall of every kennedy. it was like seeing a train coming and standing on the railroad tracks. additionally i already knew the entire show, i had never seen it before but might as well have been the narrator.

i regret leaving nacogdoches. i miss my family. i miss my brother. i never took for granted everything i enjoyed because i knew the moment of departure would come. that seems to have been a flawed policy as i now miss everything more. the world failed to mention this when it proposed carpe diem to me as such a viable lifestyle.

exciting weekend. after my lazy week of enjoying myself in a cyber-pirate world i reentered the real world.

first off mad props to steven, we had a little run in which he fucking owned like a complete champ. i got a free mountain dew out of it also, badass D, mad props.

on friday steven rabbit and i went to the say anything concert in houston, there we met up with curry, josue nachos, katie and evil amongst others. also some dude from sfa recognized me from campus and gave me some props, i forget his name, but props to that guy. let me say first off that the crowd at this show blew ass, hardly anyone was into it. it makes no sense, it was like SA was the opening act, perhaps a third of the crowd singing the lyrics and having fun while the rest stood there with crossed arms waiting for the next band; only SA were the headliners. anywho, i briefly caught up with alex, the bass player, and met the new guitarists after the show, all were in good spirits and seem very capable of carrying the SA banner with enthusiasm and pride. the band brought the intensity despite the lame crowd, of course i enjoyed this more than anyone in the crowd. i was front and center as usual. max recognized me in the crowd and signaled for me to get closer (or on stage, as with hand motions you cant really tell) i got as close as possible and did my best to keep him pumped. several forehead singing incidents happened...

trust me there is nothing more cathartic then screaming your favorite songs with the lead singer of your favorite band forehead to forehead. i respect max bemis to the utmost due to similarities i infer between us and the emotions i feel in his music and my being. so you can imagine how fucking good it feels to share moments like that. god dammit it is so good.

the set was extensive including songs he has never played on a tour before such as... i can be sexual... little girls, i want to know your plans, admit it, and walk through hell. awesome, i love say anything but i cant talk about them forever in this post, so ill end talking about them there........ or will i? buh buh bummmmmmmmmmmm

on saturday morning i left houston at 6 am to goto austin to play ultimate with sfa at the centex tournament at UT. mixed results... it was the worst weather ever, fucking misty to raining the whole time, and fucking cold. awful, still our shorthanded team (12 people) rose to the occasion and played all our games. my parents came for the first two, they left after those because of the shitty weather, cant blame them. we got killed our first game 13 - 1. we played our second game against the all-women team composed of the two best womens teams in the state, we were in it as long as we played our guys, but broke down and played all women for awhile and ended up losing. so yes i lost to a team of girls, hot, athletic, attractive, better than me at throwing lasses. lets just say damn, losing was never so awesome, mad props to those lasses for hanging tough and kicking ass. also in this game i ran into someone i graduated from high school with. this chick emily, i recognized her face but never knew her in high school, but now she plays competitive ultimate. that was cool, i guarded her briefly and god damn does she fucking run alot and hard.

after we lost those first two games. we busted out the "lightweight traveler." aka Windsor Canadian whiskey, good for traveling. if you are playing ultimate, driving, or at court for your recent DWI or PI the lightweight traveler is for you. we then cleaned up in our last two games using the lightweight traveler as our war cry.

ok so after that we showered and started to drink in the hotel room with nothing to do then the impossible happened. say anything/saves the day/dashboard confessional were all playing at austin city music hall that night, we wanted to go but had no way of getting there. then sean calls his uncle, who is the head chef/caterer at the venue who hooks us up with all access passes to the show. fuck yes!!!

after getting our passes from 'Bulb' the electrician, we made quick friends with alot of the stage crew for the venue who were from nac. we arrived after SA was almost done, only caught molly and admit it but enjoyed every second of it from backstage. then sean's uncle showed up and introduced us to everyone at the venue, i dont want to write everything that occurred because im lazy, ask me about it and ill tell you the whole story. there are lots of small mini-stories that came out of the concert. anywho when dashboard came on we chilled and joked about chris carraba's (spelling?) guitar tuning army, he using tuning manipulation to make guitar easier (results in having 2 full time tuners and over 15 guitars). so we see half the show from that half the stage, then we go over to the other side of the stage...

there i run into Parker, Say Anything's temporary keyboardist and exmember of JamisonParker (yes none of you know who he is but i enjoyed both of this JP cd's and i was thrilled when he was admitted to SA). i sit down next to him introduce myself, he seems ecstatic that i knew who he was and procedes to talk to me for the remaining 20 minutes of SA's set. it was awesome, he was very friendly and actually kept talking to me. i kept expected him to stop talking to me after everything we said, but he would keep turning to me and bringing up a new point of conversation, i was thrilled. we talked about everything from me apologizing for the lack of energy from houston but how i appreciated him still rocking out, to him asking me about what chris carabba was doing onstage technically, (i of course had no clue, but felt it awesome he was treating me as an equal in the conversation, considering he has two cd's and 2 years of nationwide touring). i loved every second of it and will buy that guy a beer anyday of the week. he was so humble and interested in talking to me that i was exhilarated. i have that guys back in whatever he does. seriously i dont think anyone understands how cool that was to me and how much i enjoyed it.

anyway, that was my weekend sans trip back with eileen today. it was a great weekend.

~beuf

also, if you are a computer game fan, check out this video... it is 35 minutes long, if you watch the first five minutes you will watch the rest. it is will wright's new game (creator of the sim games and maxis), it looks amazing and the video is awesome.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198&q=spore

so today i got a cortisone shot in my hip, which has been nagging me for the past 2 months. it feels good, a little sore from the needle, but the muscles feel better already. you know what this means? ass kicking time at centex. i cannot wait to play some hardcore defense all up and down the field at centex, and whatever offense i can muster, normaly not alot.

i have not touched a disc in a week, i need to change that, anyone in kwood, please call me tomorrow and let us go throw the disc for 30 minutes or so. work any last minute kinks out of my mechanics.

also, i have done nothing all week but play fucking puzzle pirates. the game is very fun, i think it as very innovative. no one expressed an interest, other than rabbit playing with me and dave saying he would, in playing with me so i will stay on the free server to allow anyone that wishes to play to come play with me.

SERVER: SAGE

my Grant research is good. i am writing a revisionist term paper on US Grant's presidency. it was going better until i got this dude's thesis/book, it is pretty much my whole argument already written for me. so that is a bummer, i prefer challenges and will do my best to not paraphrase this book but rather find another way to skirt the idiocy of the reconstruction/gilded age.

this weekend i went to dallas and played in my Winter League Tournament. this is the end of the year tourny where the winner of the league is decided. it was the first full tournament i have played in where i played a majority of the points. my team went 9 and 5 in the regular season which ranked us in the second pool in which we would need a 2 - 1 record to advance.

the first game was ridiculous, we lost 9 - 2. no one was playing well and i was timid the entire time. i was waiting to get in on some defensive points and cause some havoc, but in order to play defense we have to score and give them the disc, which only happened twice. everything about that game can be forgotten. the next two games were stellar. we won both by a margin of at least 4 points. i played the best i ever had in the last three games we played, including these two. i had numerous D's causing turnovers left and right. i even scored at least 2 points in each of our last games. my team was very into it. i spent the whole time reminding our team that defense wins championships and that intensity is the name of the game. i was my teams rasheed wallace it was awesome. i had a few good plays in these runs, i sky'ed some dude for a td and i had an awesome thigh block (it was brought back on a bullshit foul call, i had all disc). layouts were in abundance. my knees are torn up pretty nicely and my lower back has a cut on it, but laying out is part of playing good D.

this brings us to our quarterfinal game. it was going very well, we went up 3 - 1, including 2 scores by myself. then things fell apart. as i mentioned earlier, my team was of the older variety, i was the most athletic person on the team, which is not saying much for the team. at this point in the tournament, it being the 4th game, things just fell apart. the entire team died. at this point i realized what was happening and did everything i could to get my team back in the game, i was playing some ridiculous defense, but my team was gone. at this point i did not come out of the game. we gave up five straight points making it 6 - 3. we then scored one easy one, then the soft cap blew, that means there is 10 minutes left until the game is over, so we start pouring it on. we amazingly rally and score two more points to tie the game. at this point the soft cap has expired creating ultimate point, next team to score wins. we are pulling to them...

they quickly drive downfield and make a 25 yard shot at the end zone, i leave coverage of my man to chase this disc before the endzone and i lay out and block the fuck out of it. while horizontal in midair i get t-boned by some dude on the other team right in the ribs (that hap pend 3 times over the day, ribs very tender now). my team drives slightly down field and then takes a shot at the endzone which comes up short. again the other team tries for the endzone and i intercept the pass, 2 D's on the ultimate point! surely my team can come through on its second chance at the endzone... no we turn it over fairly quickly which the other team converts with a quick score. heartbreak!

had we of wont we would of gone to the semifinals and played a team with 4 people from nac on it sean, mike, porter and pam. we would have been soundly defeated in that game but it would have been fun.

right now my body has never been more sore. every one of my leg muscles wants to do absolutely nothing. i have never been this sore in my life. my ribs are killing me from getting nailed multiple times and my knees ache from laying out. i left everything i had on the field. overall i feel good, i held up very well stamina wise and i could of played another game at a high level for sure.

the thing that i am most proud of is what happened after the quarters game. after the game we are doing the handshake line like in little league and the captain of the team pulls me aside. he tells me that i played really well and invited me to come play for the Dallas team, Dallas United. turns out he is the captain for the team... in ultimate there is no professional league, but there is a national tournament everyear. the nation is divided into 8 regions each sends a designated number of teams based on the number of teams that play in the region. Dallas United is one of the top 3 teams in texas. it traditionally does not qualify for the national tournament but it is still a competitive team that wrecks shop in tournaments in texas. i am excited because it tells me that my play has elevated to a level that i did not think it was at and it means that there is a place for me to play ultimate after SFA.

after all the tournament stuff there was a free party at a bar in dallas, free booze, and Karaoke! Nacogdoches won the party as we filled the bar with renditions of Don't Stop Believing and Anyway you want it, everyone from SFA was up on stage rocking out, Dont Stop climaxed with sean and i air guitaring back to back, great fucking time.

anyway, this weekend kicked ass, great time, i also refuse to proof read this document.

so im taking jogging and today i ran about 2.3 miles and i feel great. my body does not feel exhausted or tired in fact i feel ready to play ultimate tonight. i am doing alot of physical conditioning because all my hard work paid off and i made the SFA Savage Seven team. the Savage Seven is a tournament in college station with no substitutes. the average ultimate game takes 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes to play, this tournament is all in one day. meaning six games minimum with no substitutes in a row. i am very happy because playing on this team is also flattering as it is marking the beginning of my ascent into an upper level of players. i am not there yet, i still lack tournament experience and my handling still needs work at greater than 20 yards but i am getting there. it is a great feeling to have your hard work and dedication begin to pay off.

im just hoping that my hip extender or and right knee are up to all this. i foresee the biggest problem is that my heart will outpace my body. my parents are going to come watch me play in savage and i figure that i will be setting Croes family records in activity with every step (my rather standard lethargic family being the benchmark).

with that said im out

dear chris,

i did just lose a huge amount of respect for you.

not because of your belief but because you were a pretty huge ass about articulating it and attempting to brow beat me into submission. you do this with frequency and most of the time i bite my tongue, but you hit a pretty big vein this time and i feel that biting my tongue and allowing you to believe that you acted in a manner that a friend would is wrong because that is not something that i will submit myself to.

that is as amicably as i can put it.

past weekend has been ridiculous...

first on friday and saturday i went to the University of Texas at Arlington for the National Undergraduate Moot Court Championship tournament. Dan and i are partners and we went vastly underprepared but threw on our ape suits and did pretty well. We dropped only one ballot in the 3 preliminary rounds and broke to the double octofinals with ease. We then proceded to the quarterfinals where we hit the worst of scenarios, a silent bench. Moot court is a competition where you argue for a client in front of the supreme court using a made up situation and including real supreme court precident. as in the supreme court the judges can interupt you and ask questions or make arguments against you at any point during the procedings. Dan and i excell at answering these questions and interacting with the judges. a silent bench is one that asks no questions. meaning that our greatest strength was immediatly eliminated. we ended up losing on a 3 - 2 decision so that was demoralizing... until we remembered that we had spent no time preparing for an event entirely based on extensive preparation. additionally we both won all-american honors for being one of the top 8 teams.

yes you read correctly vince young and i have something in common and i am an all american.

also, i won fifth place in individual speaking, which won me individual all american distinction. thats right i won double distinction as an all american. also winning that distinction also won me a $6000 scholarship to Drake law school if i choose to attend. all very exciting and it was rather fun.

of course on saturday i was eager to get home because of the HOBO PARTY. it went very well, with a large turnout despite the rain and good demeanor all around. the only bad thing was that i went out really early. around midnight i speculate, unlike my first forays into alcohol where i went out early with four beers in me i was done in by everclear. campo made some everclear jello shots (more everclear than jello) i had seven of these shots on top of my steel reserve, mickey's and an assortment of any shot that was put infront of me. it was a good time when i was still alive though. the jello shot incident was a mixture of my fault and a certain friend who may or may not be a member* of the moot court team. this person just continued to make me take jello shots with him, but he was in very high spirts everyone enjoyed having him here and yes i did want some of his 'salty nuts.' (his hobo persona was to offer everyone some salty nuts he had in a can, hilarious). mike cut his hair into a ronnie dobbs mullet, i had a terrible sports coat, long johns, a top hat, and an extension cord belt. great time, i cant wait to do it again.

im out now because i have an 8 am class, fucking A!

the LJ gusto continues. today i ran another mile (notes all distances do not include a jog to the stadium and a light jog back from it). my right hip flexor and my left calf were being bitches, that was very annoying. along with some monster cramping from the huge meal i had at chicken express earlier today.

anywho, last night we watched 'Run Ronnie Run' the Mr. Show movie. it was fucking hilarious and i recommend it to everyone. no doubt it is funnier if you have seen the episode of Mr. Show that it is based on but its still funny none the less. in fact, expect my away messages to be nothing but quotes from the movie for awhile.

other than that, i downloaded six episodes of gilmore girls today and monitored fantasy basketball with the hawkish dedication i will need to win the league.

little known mabeuf fact. in the last year i learnt how cricket is played. i met this random indian dude and struck up a conversation about how it is played/scored/the rules and he gave me the entire low down. im excited as the pakistan/india series is starting up soon and now i can follow it with an interest greater than just 'who won?'
